​Vivendo numa aldeia perto da cidade grande dos Monstros, Machadinho e Mosquito são dois irmãos muito diferentes.

​

Machadinho é muito trabalhador e passa os seus dias a cortar lenha e a apanhar frutos para fazer compotas para os dias frios de Inverno e para vender no mercado da cidade onde vão todas as semanas. Enquanto isso, o pequenote Mosquito, preguiçoso, está sempre em cima das árvores a brincar e a comer os frutos que o Machadinho quer levar para casa.​

Numa manhã já com um vento frio a pedir umas boas luvas e umas botas quentinhas o monstrinho Machadinho estava muito aborrecido porque tinham ainda pouca lenha e poucas compotas para o Inverno que estava quase a chegar.​

- Mosquito, tens que me ajudar! Sozinho não vou conseguir. Precisamos de mais madeira e bagas e tu não paras de brincar. Vá lá, pára com isso. Se não me ajudas, daqui a umas semanas vamos estar cheios de frio e fome.​

Mosquito olhou para o irmão e disse:
- Mas mano, está muito frio para trabalhar. E hoje estou muito cansado…​

Machadinho resmungou:
- Cansado? De quê? Só se for da brincadeira… Olha Mosquito, se me ajudares faço-te a tarte de morango que tu mais gostas.​

Mosquito abriu muito os olhos e quase caía de tão tonto que ficou só de imaginar o cheirinho bom da tarte de morango que o irmão mais velho fazia como ninguém.​

Semanas mais tarde, já com muita neve lá fora, mas com a casa cheia de doces e lenha, puderam então passar os dias a ler e a brincar de barriga cheia e bem quentinhos.

Living in a village near the big City of Monsters, Machadinho and Mosquito are two very different brothers.​

​

Machadinho is very hard-working and spends his days collecting firewood and fruit to make jam for the cold days of winter and to sell them in the city’s market where they go every week. Meanwhile, the little and lazy Mosquito is always on the top of the trees playing and eating the fruits Machadinho wants to take home.​

One morning, with the cold wind asking for some good gloves and warm boots, monster Machadinho was very concerned because they were still short on firewood and jam for the winter, that was almost upon them.​

- Mosquito, you have to help me! I can’t do it on my own. We need more wood and berries but you just don’t stop playing. Come on... If I don’t help me, in a few weeks we'll be freezing and starving.​

Mosquito looked at his big brother and said:
- But, it is too cold to work. And I am very tired today...
Machadinho grumbled:
- Tired? Of what, playing around all day long? Look, if you help me now I’ll make that strawberry pie you love so much.​

Mosquito opened his eyes and fell dizzy just by imagining the good smell of the pie that his older brother makes like nobody else.​

Weeks later, with lots of snow outside, but with their house full of sweets and wood, they were able to spend their days warm, reading and playing and with their bellies sooo stuffed.
